That means less and less of your followers are actually seeing your updates.
This is largely because the news feed is getting more and more crowded. With more people posting every day. To combat that, almost all of the social media platforms have rolled out algorithms that decide what to show in the news feed. So that you’re only seeing the content that you’re most likely to be interested in.
So… does that mean you should give up on social media?
Throw in the towel.
No way!!
It just means the game has changed.
And you’ll need to change up your strategy.
But the good news is…
We have more ways to reach our audience now than ever before.
Through paid media, native ads, retargeting, influencer marketing, Facebook LIVE video, and now Facebook Instant Articles.
We’re starting a brand new series this week all about new and unusual traffic strategies for 2016.
This is Part 1 in a 3-part series.
I’ve personally been seeing a lot of “rehashed” traffic strategies lately.
Just the same thing being repeated over and over.
Things like…
Content Marketing Guest Blogging Facebook Ads Blogger Outreach Social Media Link Roundups Pinterest Group Boards Google Plus Communities LinkedIn Groups Sub-Reddits Podcasting Solo Ads Ad Swaps SEO
Guess What?
All of those are great.
But I’m ready for something fresh.
And that’s why I’ve created this 3-part traffic series.
To share with you some of the latest traffic strategies that are working RIGHT NOW.
And a few that you may not have heard of yet :)
So let’s dive right in to Unusual Traffic Strategy #1:
“Push Notifications”
These have become a staple on our cell phones. They’re those little messages you get on your phone telling you that someone has posted on your Facebook wall, or someone has sent you a friend request, or that it’s your turn on “Words with Friends”.
Push notifications we’re originally introduced by Apple in 2009 to provide a way for mobile app developers to re-engage their users.
They quickly became one of the main marketing channels for mobile apps.
But…
This technology has now come to the desktop.
Which means that your website visitors are now able to “subscribe” to your website without providing any contact information. No need to enter their name and email. They can subscribe to “desktop updates” with just one click.
Do you know the best way to generate traffic to your website?
It’s actually a very simple formula.
Step 1: Find out WHERE your target audience hangs out online.
This could be specific websites, forums, Facebook groups, Pinterest Group Boards, email newsletters, etc…
Step 2: Once you identify where your people hang out online, it’s simply a matter of POSITIONING your content in front of them.
This could be buying banner ads on other websites. Paying to advertise in specific email newsletters. Sharing your blog posts with related Pinterest Group Boards. Or contributing to related forums.
But one of my favorite ways to start building an audience is to guest post on OTHER people’s blogs.
This means creating an exclusive article for a related website or blog. By doing so, you get to link back to your website in the bio. Sending you some highly targeted traffic.
In fact, did you know you can get featured on sites like Forbes, The Huffington Post, Entrepreneur Magazine, Business Insider, and Fast Company.
With just one blog post, you can start to establish your expertise online, get backlinks from authority sites, and start building an audience of your own.
Guest blogging is an opportunity to get in front of a hungry audience.
And hundreds of articles have been written on how to build your audience using guest blogging.
But how do you find the BEST places to guest post in your niche?
That’s what this post is all about :)
